A map-based poster helped to convey Indian Spice restaurant’s new location in an elegant and visually interesting manner.
Background and Requirement
As Indian Spice — a well-known vegetarian restaurant in Jaipur, India — prepared to move to new premises in 2014, design of a poster informing clientele about the new location was commissioned. In the design brief, the client requested for a location map to be prominently placed in the poster layout.
Design Rationale
During the research and ideation phase, the designer observed that the new location was a few blocks (diagonally) north-east of the existing location. The two locales could thus be visually connected by means of the leaf symbol from the restaurant logo, which, coincidentally, pointed in the same direction.
The simplistic map — with the two locations connected by the leaf — became the central part or focus of the poster.
Overall look and feel of the poster — including the colour palette and typeface used — confirmed to the brand / visual identity of Indian Spice.
Visual elements in the large 24 by 36 inch poster layout were arranged with the aid of a 1 x 1 inch background grid.
Technical Details
The poster was printed digitally, mounted and placed inside the restaurant as well as near the exterior parking area.
Conclusion
The poster conveyed information about the restaurant’s move in an elegant, simplistic and visually interesting manner while retaining a strong brand look.
